What does it mean when you say rescue dog?  There are so many reasons why a dog ends up 'homeless'.  Most commonly, the original owner is moving or no longer has time to devote to the dog.  Sometimes, these dogs are saved from abusive homes or situations where they have been neglected medically or physically.

A rescued dog spends time in a foster home so that his/her temperament can be evaluated, brought current on shots, vet care and/or receive some training prior to being adopted into their new home.  Literally thousands of dogs are adopted as adults & make wonderful companions.  Think about all the dogs at the shelter...  if there was little possibility that they would settle into new homes, the Municipality would be wasting their time keeping them alive.    Unthinkable, right?!  Most of the dogs are there simply because their owner didn't want to spend more time and/or money on the dog, not because the dog has no capability to learn, play with others or love a person.

The reason this web site exists is to help point potential adopters in the right direction.  My own personal opinions will be mentioned here and there and this is one of them...  For the people looking for a purebred companion, with no intention of ever competing in performance events, I see absolutely no reason to buy a puppy from a breeder.  Puppyhood only lasts for a few months, you have to deal with accidents in your house, teething, regular vet visits, and personality is unpredictable.  Why not adopt a dog that is past the growing stage, already current on vet care and you will know his/her personality right off the bat.  AND, if you do decide to compete in AKC or UKC events later, all you have to do is train, send in a picture, fill out paperwork and BAM, you have a registration number!

Long story short...  you won't be disappointed when you give a loving home to a dog in need.
